| . . . . . .This is The Collins Heritage Conservation District. . . There are no policy statements or by-laws in place to compel the Town or any contracted workers to treat the public land in this heritage conservation district any differently than any other part of town.--------------And it is not treated differently, . . .last summer contracted workers from Wolfville were trimming trees in the area, and when approached, had no idea that it was a conservation district. .. .. ..Curb and guttering, concrete and asphalt are depriving the original 19th century ornamental tree plantings of water, their top branches are bare--they are dying. Cheap metal sign posts have replaced the wooden posts . . .and the wooden . .posts..that remain..have not been painted in .. YEARS... The original streetscape has no protection and even though many property owners went to great expense to preserve the buildings the Town has taken little care in dealing with it's property within this heritage district.---it doesn't have to. |
